As a beginner at Japanese, I did not know where to start. I googled it, and everyone said you should learn hiragana, then katakana. So, I bought this app.
Japanese is certainly an intimidating language, so I do recommend that anyone serious about learning it takes a class of some kind. However, if you are teaching yourself, or even if you need to study basic hiragana for a class, this is the only app I would recommend.
Prior to purchase, I read the reviews of this app and thought the reviewers were exaggerating, or lying. I thought, "how on earth could you learn hiragana so easily?" Even so, I purchased the app. In only two hours, I had basic hiragana memorized.
Now, keep in mind, though this app will quiz you on modified and compound hiragana, it will not teach modified and compound hiragana to you. I searched the Internet for a modified and compound hiragana chart. After drilling myself (k turns to g, s turns to z, t turns to d, etc) I went on a website called realkana.com. After practicing for another hour, I had modified and compound hiragana down.
Then, katakana. I bought the Dr. Moku katakana app, and bam, in two more hours, I had basic, modified, and compound katakana down.
Both apps are worth the purchase if you really want to learn Japanese.
Once youve got these two "alphabets" down, its on to tackling kanji. For this, I purchased a mnemonics book, and, of course, studied hard. Good luck to all of you. This app will definitely help you with your journey, buy it!(≧∇≦)
