Its a Good App
Edit: Some of the mnemonics from Dr. Mokus Hiragana will help, some will not. Im using this app, Human Japanese, StickyStudy, and Mindsnacks Japanese. StickyStudy has a setting that actually makes you write the kana and that helped me to learn them MUCH faster than this app. If you are choosing between Dr. Moku and StickyStudy definitely go with StickyStudy.
I am just starting to learn Japanese, and I bought the Dr. Moku bundle of both hiragana and katakana because they were highly recommended. I want to learn quickly, and this app has helped me to learn faster. Its definitely worth getting if you want to learn the characters and dont have a lot of time! All the other reviewers have talked about its good points, and I think there are a lot of improvements that can be made:
1. In the autoplay function, we should be able to say how many seconds we want to display each character.
2. When doing the quizzes, the "Right!" and "Wrong!" popups that come when you choose a characters name should not cover the character. If I dont know, I guess, and if the character is covered I cant see what I guessed right or wrong about. There should be a Continue button I have to press before I move on to the next question.
3. A few of the characters are blocked by the pictures. (e.g. Hu/fu, chi, ko). Its really important for beginners to see what the whole character looks like. Rather than cover up the character with different colors to make the picture, I would prefer if the whole character was black and the pictures used a colored outline.
4. I really want to be able to play the sound of each character while watching the stroke order.
I really hope these improvements are taken into consideration. Thank you.
